Rest days are a crucial part of your training. They might be perceived as idle time, but in fact, they can enhance your result. Rest allows the body to fully recover, strengthen and maximize your performance capacity.
How do you know when you need rest? For the majority of cases, it’s enough to listen to your own body. When you’re feeling tired, sore, or lacking in strength, you may need a break from working out. Those who use resistance training to reach goals and reduce the risk of injury might look at periodization as a workout strategy. It aims to introduce variations in training specificity, intensity, and volume.
Replenishing body fluids following training bouts is also a key part of the total training recovery process.
A 20-30 minute massage is a great way to improve recovery post-workout if given immediately or up to 2 hours after exercise. It’s thought to be a powerful way to ease muscle pain and fatigue, regardless of your fitness level or training volume. A brisk walk or bike ride shortly after training can also help.
Optimizing your recovery period is an important way to maintain good muscle function as well as helping to ease muscle pain and fatigue. Taking a day off helps to manage the immune function, sleep, and muscle function as well as the risk of injury and muscle soreness. Besides, muscles need 24-48 hours to repair and rebuild naturally, so working out again too soon can simply lead to tissue breakdown instead of muscle building
. In summary, listen to your body and monitor your training to achieve the best results. Achieving optimum fitness is also about taking regular rest.
